What is a certified Relais du TerroirTM (Farm Shop)?

Sale of products produced on the farm or in the region. A farm visit introduces you to the various production and processing methods used for the products on sale, the flavours of which are typical of Québec.

In addition to this definition, a certified Relais du Terroir (Farm Shop) is first and foremost a label of quality or a brand name that only agricultural producers certified by the Fédération des Agricotours du Québec have the right to use. This label of quality is granted to the best agri-tourism farms in Québec specializing in the production and processing of terroir products.  More specifically, to have the right to use the name Relais du Terroir (Farm Shop), the agricultural producer must meet strict standards for high quality on a continuing basis, and also respect the promise given to our customers.

Québec, a province on Canada’s Atlantic seaboard, has the benefit of extremely diverse geography – grasslands, mountains, ocean, forests, rivers, etc. Thanks to this natural richness, and through hard work, our agricultural producers have been able to develop a wide range of products, each corresponding to a particular ‘terroir’; together, these terroirs form the terroir of Québec. The natural resources, the buildings, the soil, the produce that grows in it, the products that are created from it, and most certainly the men and women who grow the produce, are all integral to this terroir. For example, in the Montérégie, it consists of hills, orchards, apple trees, apples, cider houses, cider, etc. In short, a terroir is alive, and evolves through the people that shape it, whether they are raising emus in Gaspésie or red deer in Mirabel. These are exactly the terroirs that you’ll find represented in our Relais du Terroir (Farm Shops).

So when you want to explore the diversity of Québec farms, our certified Relais du Terroir (Farm Shops) are the best places to visit. Here you’ll find fresh berries, fruits made into jellies, jams and other conserves, pâtés, products made from lamb, duck, venison, emu and ostrich, farmhouse cheeses made from raw milk, honey, ciders, ice ciders, rosé and sparkling ciders, flavoured vinegars, wines, apple brandy, mistelles, mead, artisan beers, maple sugar products, soaps made from goat’s milk, and many other products. In addition, our agricultural producers will take great pleasure in explaining how they produce and process their products, and in telling you about the quality and originality of their products. In this way, you’ll know exactly what you’re buying, where the product comes from and what it contains.
